Crappy Riding year

I was never able to fix either son's motorcycles
It took over 5 month to get a part from Honda that was on backorder
so we only got in 3 rides including the one where both of their bikes broke

First ride of the year

We went for the first ride of the year yesterday. I thought I knew where I was going once we got out on the trail, but only seem to go around in circles. We never made it to the waterfall that the boys like to go to. But we did get 32 miles in, which is not bad for the first ride. My back is feeling it right now.

Snow

Well we were hoping to go riding soon, but woke up this morning and it was snowing.
Not that it was unexpected, it is Idaho weather.
Until the end of may snow is always a chance.
So I guess I just work on the motorcycles and trailer today

It has been a while

I did not realize that it had been back till June when I last posted.
The boys bikes were broken most of the summer.
So not much riding.

New Riding Season

The snow finally receded enough to allow riding on the trails.
Me and the boys went up to Fall Creek.
We did the same old loop.
We did put 50 miles on the bikes.
Which is not bad for the first ride of the year.
I took a couple headers on some hairpin turns that were rutted out.
Good thing I had a helmet on.
My youngest son got his bike stuck in the creek at the bottom of the canyon.
There was about 2 ft of silt in the creek.
It was a pain in the ass.

Kellys to Driggs

Well, it has been a while since I was able to go riding. The weather and work just would not cooperate.

Some of the guys from work and I went on a "big-boy" ride. Right at 80 miles in one day.
We rode from Kelly Canyon ski area over to Driggs, ID. The picture is me at the top of Garns Mt. In the background you can see the Grand Tetons. Spectacular view from up here. Theride was not as hard as everyone was saying. I think my sons can make this easily. The only tough part was the last 200 yards or such to this point. There was a lot of large rocks. Only one of the guys ate it there. His back tire caught a rock and over the handlebar he went.

Thunderstorms

I was hoping to put up a new post of a great all day ride. At least That is what I have been told. The problem is that there has been thunderstorms and rain the last three days. Currently, radar shows that it is pouring over in the mountains we were going to ride in. May be on my next set of days off.

Fall Creek

I took the boys over to Fall Creek on 7-26-05.

Before we stared the ride we ran over to the Fall Creek Camp ground,
Which is just a few miles from the trailhead

Fall Creek Campground

Loacated N43.43685, W111.36213

The campground sits on the Snake River
World class Trout fishing
Make sure you bring a pole

The campground has several toilet facilities
There is running water available
There are several trash dumpsters
About 1 mile before the campground entrance is Fall Creek
The falls are fun to play in, just do not swin out to far or you will end up in the current of the main river

Ride trailhead is located N43.43311, W111.40329
This is where we parked and headed over to Pritchard creek trail which is on the north side of the Fall Creek road
That loop was about 16 miles
After a short break back at the parking lot we took of on the Fall Creek trail
with the ride back down the road include this loop was about 31 miles
The highest point on our ride was 7978
I think this was the longest single ride day the boys have been on

As you can see from the background in the picture above things are pretty green
I do not know if they are saying we ar still in a drought but the grass, weeds, and wilflowers are doing will this year.

First Ride

We made our first camping trip this last week

Timber Creek Campgrounds

Located N44.39532, W113.40865

There are hundreds of miles of trails

Campground is surrounded be two creeks.
Fishing is decent.
We caught Brook Trout and Bull Trout (Dolly Varden)
You can not keep the Bull's

There are two spring fed water spigots.
The water is safe to drink.

For those of you who would rather not use the woods when mother nature calls, an outhouse is available (with toilet paper)

I know this is only a beginning.
I will get better

Do you need a place to ride?

I am fairly new to riding dirt bikes in Idaho. So far the Internet has not been a very good resource for information. I found one site, but a lot of the material was dated and lacking needed information. Having said this I have decided to try my hand at providing needed information myself.
I have a few friends who have lived and rode here forever. With their knowledge and my GPS and digital camera I hope to help others out. Check back often. I hope to get out and ride at leat one day every week of the summer.
I will be posting information on the ride locations here. The information will include locations, directions, services and etc. I will have pictures and possible GPS track from the most recent rides.
